All vignette options for Austria at a glance — with prices, validity periods, and purchase recommendations.
The annual vignette is the most economical option for anyone who regularly uses Austria's motorways. It is valid not just for one calendar year, but from 1 December of the previous year to 31 January of the year after next — effectively 14 months of validity.
The annual vignette is available for cars, motorcycles, and motorhomes up to 3.5 tonnes. It entitles the holder to unlimited use of all toll-liable motorways and expressways in Austria, excluding special toll sections.
The 2-month vignette is ideal for seasonal travellers, holidaymakers with longer Austrian stays, or people who regularly use Austrian motorways for a limited period. It is valid for 60 consecutive days from the chosen start date.
The start date can be freely chosen at the time of purchase — for the digital vignette, up to 18 days in advance. The vignette is non-transferable and applies only to the registered licence plate (digital vignette) or the vehicle to which it is affixed (sticker vignette).
The 10-day vignette is the most affordable option for short-stay visitors and transit drivers. It is valid for 10 consecutive days from the chosen start date, making it ideal for weekend trips, short holidays, or transit journeys through Austria.
Important: The 10-day vignette is valid for 10 days, not 10 individual journeys. Driving multiple times on the motorway in a single day still only uses one day of validity.
Both vignette formats have the same legal effect. The choice depends on personal preferences and practical considerations.

Full Pricing OverviewMotorcycles also require a vignette for using Austrian motorways and expressways. However, the tariff is significantly lower than for cars. The vignette is affixed to the motorcycle — for the digital vignette, the motorcycle's licence plate is registered.
Motorcycles with sidecars are classified as motorcycles and pay the motorcycle tariff, provided the maximum permissible total weight does not exceed 3.5 tonnes.
For motorcycles, the sticker vignette is typically affixed to the licence plate holder or another clearly visible, solid part of the vehicle — not to a windscreen.
The digital vignette is particularly recommended for motorcyclists, as affixing the sticker vignette to a motorcycle is more difficult than to a car.
Special regulations apply to motorhomes and vans, depending on the maximum permissible total weight (MPTW):
| Vehicle Type | MPTW | Toll System | Vignette Required? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car | up to 3.5t | Vignette | Yes |
| Motorcycle | up to 3.5t | Vignette (motorcycle tariff) | Yes |
| Motorhome | up to 3.5t | Vignette (car tariff) | Yes |
| Motorhome | 3.5–7.5t | GO-Maut (distance-based) | No |
| Van/HGV | over 3.5t | GO-Maut (distance-based) | No |
| Bus | over 3.5t | GO-Maut (distance-based) | No |
The GO-Maut is an electronic toll system for heavy vehicles, billed via an OBU (On-Board Unit) or single-journey proof.
